As a child I attended a church 20 miles from my home.  That was a long way in the 1950’s and my father was unable to take me to many extra activities due to his job responsibilities.  However, that did not prevent me from knowing about missions.

Hugo grew up in Langdale, Alabama.  He served on the USS Finback Submarine in World War II, during which time he helped to rescue George H. W. Bush from drowning at sea. His plane, the Avenger, was shot down by the Japanese and his two crew members on board went down with the plane.
